November 10, 1968 Jefferson Airplane makes their third appearance on the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, and this time their lead singer Grace Slick does the black power salute at the end of their performance.

October 26, 1968 Janis Joplin appears on TV for the first time when she performs on the variety show Hollywood Palace with Big Brother & the Holding Company.

July 20, 1968 Paul McCartney's fiancee, Jane Asher, goes on the BBC TV show Dee Time and announces that she and Paul have broken off their engagement.

July 7, 1968 The folk trio Peter, Paul and Mary appear as the "mystery guest" on CBS-TV's What's My Line?

May 14, 1968 John Lennon and Paul McCartney go on The Tonight Show to announce the formation of Apple Records. Unfortunately, Johnny Carson is on vacation and the guest host is the sportscaster Joe Garagiola, who has no idea what to talk about.

May 4, 1968 Steppenwolf make their US television debut, performing "Born to Be Wild" on American Bandstand.

April 28, 1968 The Seeds guest star as "The Warts" on the "How Not To Manage A Rock Group" episode of the NBC-TV sitcom The Mothers-In-Law.

April 22, 1968 "This Guy's in Love With You" becomes a huge hit after Herb Alpert sings it to his wife on the TV special The Beat of the Brass. The song, written by Burt Bacharach, is released as a single two days later thanks to viewer demand.

March 25, 1968 The last episode of The Monkees airs on NBC, concluding the show's two-season run. Titled "The Frodis Caper," it's a very sci-fi episode directed by Micky Dolenz. It opens with the band waking up to "Good Morning Good Morning" by The Beatles, one of the first uses of a Beatles song in a non-Beatles production.

March 17, 1968 The Bee Gees appear on the Ed Sullivan Show, marking their first appearance on American TV.

March 14, 1968 The BBC-TV program Top Of The Pops broadcasts The Beatles new promotional video for "Lady Madonna," which, oddly enough, is made up entirely of clips from the band's recording of "Hey Bulldog."

January 12, 1968 The Supremes play a trio of nuns on the Tarzan episode "The Convert."

December 23, 1967 Jeremy Clyde of Chad & Jeremy appears on CBS-TV's My Three Sons in the episode "Liverpool Saga."

December 11, 1967 NBC airs the Nancy Sinatra television special Movin' With Nancy.

December 3, 1967 The Supremes guest star on "Tennessee" Ernie Ford's TV special.

November 26, 1967 The Beatles can't appear in person on the Ed Sullivan Show, but are there in celluloid when their promotional film (an early music video) for "Hello Goodbye" runs on the program.

November 11, 1967 Van Morrison makes his only appearance on American Bandstand, lip-synching his big hit "Brown Eyed Girl."

November 5, 1967 Kenny Rogers makes his TV debut, appearing with his group The First Edition on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour.

October 22, 1967 The day after it hits #1 in the US, Lulu performs "To Sir With Love" on The Ed Sullivan Show.

October 17, 1967 The songwriting team of Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart, along with producer Phil Spector, guest star on the "Jeannie, The Hip Hippie" episode of I Dream Of Jeannie, where Jeannie joins a band.

October 11, 1967 Barbra Streisand's third TV special, The Belle Of 14th Street, airs on CBS.

October 1, 1967 The first edition of the program Top Gear, featuring host DJ John Peel, airs on BBC Radio 1.

September 30, 1967 BBC Radio One goes on the air. The first song played is "Flowers In The Rain" by The Move.

September 23, 1967 One-hit wonders The Strawberry Alarm Clock perform "Incense And Peppermints" on American Bandstand.

September 3, 1967 A young Swedish singer named Anni-Frid Lyngstad wins a talent-show contest on the TV program Hyland's Corner with her group the Anni-Frid Four. She would later become famous as one of the two female lead singers of ABBA.

August 26, 1967 The Beatles follow their favorite new lecturer, the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, to University College in Bangor, North Wales, along with Mick Jagger and his girlfriend Marianne Faithfull. After his lecture the group holds a press conference to announce that they've become his disciples in the "Spiritual Regeneration Movement" and officially renounced the use of all drugs.

July 2, 1967 Rick Nelson stars in the short-lived (it lasts three months) TV series Malibu U on ABC.

June 3, 1967 It's a very trippy episode of American Bandstand, with Jefferson Airplane performing "Somebody To Love" and "White Rabbit."

May 28, 1967 The Association make their television debut, performing "Along Comes Mary" on the CBS variety show the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour.

May 22, 1967 Florence Ballard makes her last appearance with The Supremes when the group performs on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.
