June 6, 2000 Rascal Flatts release their self-titled debut album on the new Disney imprint, Lyric Street Records. It sells over 2 million copies in America, the first of five consecutive multi-Platinum albums for the band.

May 22, 2000 Aaron Tippin releases "Kiss This," his third and final #1 hit on the country chart.

May 9, 2000 Bad Religion release their 11th full-length studio album, The New America. It's the band's final release on Atlantic Records and their final recording with drummer Bobby Schayer, who had been a member of Bad Religion since 1991. On The New America, guitarist Brett Gurewitz (who left Bad Religion in 1994, but eventually rejoined the band in the next year) co-wrote the song "Believe It" with frontman Greg Graffin.

April 25, 2000 Papa Roach releases the album Infest, a nu-metal milestone with the hits "Last Resort" and "Broken Home."

March 21, 2000 "Newgrass" trio Nickel Creek release their breakthrough self-titled album, produced by bluegrass star Alison Krauss. The group earns two Grammy nominations: Best Bluegrass Album and Best Country Instrumental for "Ode to a Butterfly."

February 1, 2000 The Christian rock band Skillet release their third studio album, Invincible. It's the band's first release without founding member Ken Steorts, who is replaced by Kevin Haaland on guitar.

January 25, 2000 D'Angelo releases his second album, Voodoo. Like his first album, Brown Sugar in 1995, it combines real instruments with digital production techniques to form the sound of neo-soul. It's a triumph, but D'Angelo soon falls from view and doesn't put out another album until 2014.

January 1, 2000 D'Angelo releases "Untitled (How Does It Feel)," a steamy Prince-inspired tune famous for its music video, which shows the chiseled singer performing the song wearing nothing but a gold cross.

December 21, 1999 DMX releases his third album, ...And Then There Was X. Led by the singles "What's My Name" and "Party Up (Up in Here)," it goes to #1 in America, where it sells nearly 5 million copies.

November 9, 1999 Faith Hill releases her fourth album, Breathe. A huge crossover hit, it debuts at #1 in America and wins a Grammy Award for Best Country Album.

October 19, 1999 Primus issue their sixth studio album, Antipop. The song "Eclectic Electric" features guitar from James Hetfield of Metallica, and Jim Martin, formerly of Faith No More.

September 24, 1999 Sting releases his sixth solo album, Brand New Day. Among the many collaborators is the Algerian singer Cheb Mami, who appears on "Desert Rose."

July 19, 1999 Lou Bega releases his debut album, A Little Bit of Mambo.

June 22, 1999 Limp Bizkit release the nu metal landmark Significant Other, their second album. Lead by the single "Nookie," it debuts at #1 in America, unseating Millennium by Backstreet Boys.

June 1, 1999 Dido releases her debut album, No Angel, in America. It takes off at the end of 2000 after Eminem samples her song "Thank You" on his hit "Stan."

June 1, 1999 Ja Rule releases his debut album, Venni Vetti Vecci, featuring the hit single "Holla Holla."More

June 1, 1999 Brad Paisley releases his debut album, Who Needs Pictures, which features his first pair of #1 country hits: "He Didn't Have To Be" and "We Danced."More

May 19, 1999 Moby releases Play, a downtempo collection of electronic tunes built on samples of field recordings and old blues numbers. Thanks to music licensing, the songs reach lots of ears and the album becomes a global hit.More

April 27, 1999 Songs From Dawson's Creek is released after the teen drama airs its first season on The WB. The soundtrack peaks at #7 on the US albums chart.More

April 13, 1999 Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers release their album Echo.

April 12, 1999 Backstreet Boys release "I Want It That Way."

February 23, 1999 The Roots release their critical and commercial breakthrough album, Things Fall Apart. Featuring "You Got Me," it loses the Best Rap Album Grammy to Eminem's The Slim Shady LP.

November 24, 1998 The Metallica compilation of cover tunes, Garage, Inc., is released.

November 17, 1998 The Offspring release their fourth studio album, Americana, with the hit "Pretty Fly (For A White Guy)."

October 31, 1998 D'Angelo releases "Devil's Pie," the lead single from his second album, Voodoo. Fans are very excited, but the album doesn't appear until 2000.

October 27, 1998 Lauryn Hill releases her first single as a solo artist, "Doo Wop (That Thing)."

October 20, 1998 98 Degrees release their breakout album, 98 Degrees and Rising, featuring the hit singles "Because Of You" and "The Hardest Thing," as well as "True To Your Heart," a duet with Stevie Wonder from the Disney movie Mulan.

September 22, 1998 "Iris" hitmakers The Goo Goo Dolls release their smash album Dizzy Up The Girl, a 4-million seller that includes the ubiquitous City Of Angels ballad as well as the Top 20 singles "Slide," "Black Balloon" and "Broadway."More

September 21, 1998 The Fireman, Paul McCartney's trance music duo with producer Martin Glover, release their second album, Rushes. Says Glover: "Linda [Paul's wife] was very ill, and by the time we'd finished it she was dying, and for me it became very much a requiem for her."

June 30, 1998 System Of A Down release their frantic self-titled debut album. The singles "Sugar" and "Spiders" earn airplay on rock radio and MTV, and as the band builds a following through touring, it goes on to sell over a million copies in America.
